Apple announces $1.33/share Q2 profit, shatters Wall Street estimates
The grapevine widely predicted that Apple, Inc. (AAPL)'s second quarter financials would "beat the Street" -- but even some of the more optimistic predictors, Rumors included, were hesitant to suggest numbers quite as enthusiastic as they believed were possible. We need not have been so conservative; sales in every area were ahead of expectations and even insiders (more than a few) have been pleasantly surprised by the performance of Mac and non-Touch iPod sales as these sectors weather a near-perfect storm in the marketplace.

OS X 10.5.7 nearing beta phase; supports new macs, bug fixes
Despite somewhat less hands-on time that we usually like to have in our first sneak-peeks of developmental Apple software -- particularly system updates -- we are taking a look under the hood of Mac OS X 10.5.7 which is fast approaching the 'beta' phase when it will be seeded to third-party developers for testing & feedback. Interestingly, our examinations turned up not just software dirt, but hints of what's to come for the iMac, Mac Pro & even Macbook Air.

The Mac’s 25th Anniversary — Founder’s Column, Part 1
In the days to come, we will be posting a series of introspective articles analyzing the history and present-day state of the Mac in light of this weekend's 25th Anniversary of the introduction of the very first Mac; to get us started, our founder Ryan C. Meader takes a look back and lays the foundation for the coming look at what's ahead in Parts 2 & 3 later this week.We hope you've had as much fun as we have, rumor-mongering these past fourteen-plus years; but, like Apple; we've only just begun!

Does the huge MacBook Air price drop suggest an imminent revision?
Apple is becoming better known for tooting it's own horn, especially where price point/performance improvements are concerned. Yet, the recent drop of $500 off the price of the high-end MacBook Air ($400 less for the SSD drive and $100 for the 1.8GHz CPU) breaks with that pattern; no press releases or fanfare of any sort. Why?
Macbook Air begins to ship; hard drive units expected Feb. 1st
Many readers have been writing in to say that they have received shipment notifications on their Macbook Air pre-orders; many are now just leaving overseas (China) fulfillment centers near the manufacturing plants, and it appears that solid state models are going to reach customers first -- in the next few days.
Is Apple planning a desktop version of “Macbook Air”? A “Mac Air”?!
As long-time readers of Rumors know, we were among the first to break the initial rumor of a stripped-down, mid-range Macbook designed to target the "ultraportable" market and further raise the bar with stunning industrial design that couldn't have come from anywhere but Cupertino. We have also been among the first to reexamine long-standing rumors of a major overhaul to the Mac Mini.....some have even gone so far as to speculate that the Mini as we know it is coming to the end of its lifespan and will be replaced with something categorically similar -- but with a different name and striking differences. At this time, however, Rumors is confindent that the Mini, more or less as we know it today, will be around for a while yet -- instead of replacing the Mini, we believe we will see an all-new model designed to sit in between the Mini and iMac in the desktop product matrix.
Macbook Air may be updated a lot sooner than one might think….
According to reliable sources in Cupertino who our Macworld reporting team have been visiting now that the Expo is over, the Macbook Air was originally designed around Intel's 45-nanometer mobile processors but was instead modified to accept slower-clocked "Santa Rosa/Merom" class Core 2 Duo CPUs at 1.6 and 1.8GHz.It will take some time, but after the Macbook Pro is moved over to Penryn sometime in late Winter, the Air won't be too terribly far behind. It will be a solid update, but we don't necessarily think that readers should play the waiting game
Sony pouting over Macbook Air: thinks they did it first, better
Sony isn't taking the release of the Macbook Air lightly, though it may have something to do with Jobs taking shots at the Sony TZ series during the keynote.
Jobs interview: MBA development, Kindle will fail, CableCARD “loopy”
In a recent interview with the New York Times, Steve Jobs gives some candid responses to questions about the recently released Amazon kindle, the Macbook Air, and his thoughts on a CableCARD integrated AppleTV.
Apple introduces MacBook Air
One of the stories which Rumors has most intensely championed over the past year has at last come to pass -- the "Macbook Thin/Nano" rumors of the past year were almost exactly on the money. Steve Jobs and crew are demonstrating it right now as we speak, to a stunned crowd.
