January 27th Apple Event Preview part 3: New “Tablet OS” and iPhone OS
After the "Tablet" itself, one of the most anticipated announcements at today's Apple Event is that of a new operating system -- often called iPhone OS 4.0 by rumormongers, but we've heard other names for it -- that would power the Tablet and be accompanied by a simpler variant for hand-held iDevices offering parallel new features. Here's a summary of what we hope to see from Apple's new system software.
Apple quietly adds 3.33GHz quad-core Mac Pro to keep up with iMac, but fails to match value
Apple has, with little fanfare, added a 3.33GHz Core i7 Xeon 3500 (Bloomfield) option to its Mac Pro lineup for quad-core/single-chip models. Comments by the usual suspects in Cupertino have mirrored community speculation that this is a (weak) response to the new quad-core iMac clearly crushing the value equation of the Pro....but due to its dependence on costly Xeon-class chips, that equation has not changed.
Apple cuts iPod prices in prelude to Event
In what appears to be a move to calibrate expectations for today's "Music Event," Apple has already announced price cuts to existing iPod models. This suggests that new offerings will be more expensive than some rumor-mongers had hoped, and that at least one or two new products might not be immediately available.
September 9th Apple Event preview
As we prepare for Rumors' Live Coverage of tomorrow's "music-centric" Apple Event beginning just before 10AM PT/1PM ET, our backlog of summer dirt reported by the usual suspects has revealed some unique insights into what we might see there. The technical and logistical foundations are there for fulfilling virtually every single significant rumor attached to the Event; the big question is, will other factors see some of the big ones -- such as a Macbook Touch/iTablet -- pushed back? Read on for the details....

The September 9th Music event – Rumors and Expectations
Apple has once again scheduled its yearly Music event, this time it will be held on the 9th of September. What new or updated products can we expect? We'll run through some of the safe bets, and some unlikely wishes.
Will the ‘iTablet’ run iPhone OS or Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard?
As "iTablet" (Macbook Touch? iPhone Cinema?) rumors have reached a fever pitch in recent days thanks to several disclosures and leaks by third parties privy to late-stage prototypes of the device, speculation has mounted as to which variant of OS X it will run -- will it be an iPhone (ARM CPU, iPhone OS) or a Mac (Intel processor, OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard)?

Reader Q&A: What are Apple prototypes like?
From time to time, we select a few reader questions to answer as best we can, and today's comes from Kyle: "On your site, you often mention prototypes of Apple devices. I'm kind of curious how Apple works their prototype process. What do the prototype devices look like in the semi-finished state? Do they look like pieces of hardware slapped together by a sloppy DIYer or like the polished devices that we know Apple is famous for?"Read on for the answer

Snow Leopard build 10A402 seeded to developers
Weighing it at twice the size -- 1.3GB vs 655MB -- of the previous 10A394 build (itself the first major post-WWDC seed update), Snow Leopard 10A402 has been seeded to developers via Software Update from within the beta-stage Mac OS X 10.6. As usual, Apple's seed notes were short on details....but reader & source reports have already begun to reach our inboxes and the early reviews are very positive. Read on for details.

Safari 4 faster, more stable on Snow Leopard than 10.5.x
Although the upcoming 10.5.8 Update will address at least some of these issues, many readers have been reporting a wide range of problems and crashes with Safari 4.0 and 4.0.1 on Mac OS X 10.5. Interestingly, despite being incomplete and in need of further debugging itself, OS X 10.6 "Snow Leopard" has proven considerably better on both the performance and stability fronts with Safari 4.0.

WWDC Preview Part 3: iPod Touch, Other iDevices, One More Thing?
With time before today's WWDC Keynote growing short and breaking rumors of Steve Jobs' presence at the Moscone Center sending the grapevine into a frenzy, let's take a quick look at some of the less certain, but no less exciting, possibilities that we might see emerge into the light of day this morning (PDT)/afternoon (EDT) in San Francisco: new iPod Touch model(s), other iDevices ("iTablet"?!), and the ever-present potential for a completely unanticipated "One More Thing" -- potential that has just received a huge injection of probability if the Steve Jobs sightings at Moscone are what they appear to be.

WWDC 2009 Preview Part 2: iPhone OS 3.0 & Snow Leopard
With the WWDC 2009 Keynote event nearly upon us, let's taking a quick look at what we can expect from Apple's next-generation operating systems: iPhone OS 3.0 and Mac OS X 10.6 "Snow Leopard". Although we've known for some time now that we'll only see a 'Final Beta' of Snow Leopard this week, expectations for iPhone OS are somewhat less certain. In both cases, we anticipate a few surprises....the real question is how big they'll be.
