This message is excerpted from an email our founder & senior editor Ryan Meader recently sent to one of our sponsors.
At the moment, the problem is simply that the site hasn't been updated in a couple of weeks. The reason for that is relatively straightforward: I have been battling a severe chronic pain condition for several years now and in the past few weeks I've had particular difficulties with my health and haven't even been able to participate much in the caring-for of my baby son.
We are in the process of re-shuffling the team that manages Mac OS Rumors so that it won't be so dependent on me, and will be putting out a call in today's postings for members of the community to consider joining our pool of contributors. Although I still will be ultimately responsible for the site, and intend to renew my daily commitment to working on it personally as I recover from my current illness, we are seeking to be less dependent on my state of health.
You should see an immediate return to the kind of site activity that you were seeing previously -- and if the plans we are currently making are any indication, I think the site will in fact soon enter its best years yet. Since day one, when we were catapulted into prominence on the Mac Web by a series of uncanny predictions and being the first to break many of the stories that went on to result in Apple's renewed ascendance, the site has been subject to my personal circumstances and professional distractions.
No more.
We've had over 25 people work on the site with me over the years, nearly all of whom still work with me on various projects for the Xerces Media and Xerces Consulting organizations and a dozen of whom still have some degree of involvement with MOSR. But until now, they have been unable to do much unless I am available to connect them with sources, information that old friends will only entrust to my discretion which has been tested on a daily basis over well more than a decade....we are now working to change that, and many things about the site itself, in the next few weeks.
Starting right now, we're making a sweeping set of changes to the team, how we operate, and the site itself. We think they will be big steps forward -- for us, for our readers, and for our sponsoring partners. Hopefully you will agree.
If you are interested in becoming a contributor to Mac OS Rumors, or even potentially taking over the Managing Editor position as the site transitions to a new publishing team.....please submit an example article on a topic of current interest to our readership with a short, informal "cover letter" message explaining your background, experience, qualifications et cetera (we have no firm requirements -- just serious interest and in-depth knowledge of the Mac Universe) to this dedicated email address: x@xerces.com.
Our sincere thanks go out to everyone who has stuck with us over the years as the quality & frequency of updates has fluctuated, sometimes wildly.....we think you'll like what we have in store and as a group we haven't been this excited about the future since the early days of the site.
Stay tuned -- good things are in store for year Thirteen and beyond!
