Despite any rough edges in our phrasing, we didn't mean to imply that we thought otherwise. In fact, we've repeatedly confirmed that there won't be any "surprise" announcements tied directly to the conference although we do know that there will be an "unofficial" delegation of Apple employees on the show floor for at least the first 1-2 days....

We do continue to believe, with what we think is good reason based on some very good sources (though our uncertainty and the room we've left for surprises/variations in what we've internally predicted are due to the fact that the bulk of our information comes from outside Apple; only a small amount comes from current employees thus far in this case)....that before the month is out, at least one or two announcements with some connection to the buying-cycles driven by NAB will take place.

As with anything, there are numerous reasons why we could turn out to be wrong -- and Apple could easily change its mind as it often does between the time we received these reports and NAB/Q2F-CC -- but we wouldn't have posted these things without significant confidence in both our sources and the solidity of the rumor based on publicly available information.

However, we'd rather be wrong than *very* wrong -- or wrong once, than wrong repeatedly; so if you or any other reader has information....whether public, "insider," or simply a line of logical reasoning.....to suggest we are off the mark, then please drop us a line and let us know!

This "rumour" is negated by your false assumption that Apple will be present in any way at NAB this year, which so far looks as likely as the economy turning around next week. There is currently zero Apple presence announced, or rumored, at NAB 2009, except in the booths of others. In fact, the always fun and fever pitched FCPUG Supermeet is going ahead with no Apple involvement whatsoever; Adobe is the Platinum Sponsor!!!

Though Apple has definitely been product testing new versions of FCP and some kind of Motion Graphics app, as evidenced by the public hiring of product testers for 6 month stints starting end of last year, there is no reason to expect to see these new products at NAB because Apple simply won't be there. AVID will be there, along with Adobe, and Sony with Vegas. But not Apple, because apparently Apple thinks post production houses buy edit solutions from the Apple Store.

Don't get me wrong, I am truly hoping this will change. I welcome some kind of Apple presence back in the professional world as this is how I make my living. But I would not hold my breath for this year.
