There have been some complaints about the Mini Displayport to DVI adapter being incompatible with some monitors, though admittedly not as many problems as the Mini Displayport to Dual link DVI fiasco. So Apple may have 2 reasons for including 2 different kinds of ports, after all they could have just stuck with Mini Displayport.

It seems to me that this setup places the Mac Mini in the perfect place for a home living room.
If you run to your HDTV with the mini-display port you have the DVI left over to attach to a monitor for a computer in the living room. Don't know why that occured to me but it seems very family friendly.

And the fifth usb port? Look at the fancy new displayport connectors....it's gonna take up one of those ports and now you're left over with your standard Mac Mini 4.

Now that you've got me thinking about it, it's also possible that when a mini-displayport to hdmi adapter is available someone would only have to buy that instead of buying both the mini-displayport to hdmi and mini-dvi to dvi adapters to use a tv as an output.
