Macworld San Francisco Special Report: New Airport Extreme Base Station

One of the biggest outstanding questions is: what is the unspecified "Intel Processor" in the AppleTV? Rumors has mentioned several likely possibilities including the Core-derived E1000 series chips which are quite specifically optimized for the sorts of applications, including H.264 video encoding/decoding and very high quality progressive scan image optimization, that AppleTV includes as its key features.

But thus far, nobody seems prepared to say specifically. Some sources suggest that the prototypes used thus far have been heavily "black-boxed" and used a different processor than the final version will -- much as the Apple-Intel Developer Reference Computer used Pentium 4 processors instead of Core Duo.

We will report details as we are able to confirm them....much more from the show floor and the after-hours parties where the classic drunken-source scene will flower as it always does thanks to San Francisco's special magic.....many good things to come. As Apple has been saying.....2007 is going to make the past 30 years look like a snail's pace of progress by comparison to the pace that is being set now that iPhone and AppleTV are on the verge of entering the wild.

If you're an established source who would like to talk to our reporters in person under the usual safety & embargo protections -- the same protocol as last year is in place and the new dead drop is on the corner of Cloak and Dagger. :-)
